Location, Location, Location

by admin on November 19, 2009

We’ve all heard the expression, “Location, Location, Location” – and we all know how important a business’s location is to its success. No matter if you are a new business looking for your 1st location – or a long-time business looking to re-locate, here are some things to consider before you decide on a location:

  • Do you need to be close to your customer base? Are you convenient?
  • Is the rent affordable – be sure to ask the leaseholder if there are additional required costs not part of the actual monthly rent.
  • Is there adequate, accessible parking? Is it easy for your customers to enter into and leave the parking lot?
  • Costs of utilities – these can vary from city to city. Check with the utilities provider.
  • Does the general appearance of the area and building make a good first impression?
  • Is there a growth potential of the area, building, shopping center, and traffic or is the area losing businesses?
  • Do the existing zoning regulations allow for your type of business?
  • What are the future plans for the area – check with both your city and county planners.

The importance of each of the above items will vary with your type of business, but make sure you get what you need for your business – meeting your current and future needs.
